The Secretary Minority Affairs & YAS, Government of Manipur, Naorem Praveen Singh (IAS) had assured that the construction of Academic Block and hostel (boys and girls) of Pettigrew College will be completed in the month of December 2025.
Naorem Praveen Singh inspected the ongoing construction of Academic Block, Boys Hostel and Girls Hostel of Pettigrew College, Ukhrul on 25 September 2025.
Naorem Praveen Singh gave the assurance that the said works will be completed by the end of December 2025, while interacting with the media at Pettigrew College in the presence of All Hunphun Tang Association (AHTA) and Hunphun Katamnao Long (HKL).
On being asked about the quality of construction and the delay in the completion of the project, Naorem Praveen Singh stated “Yes, we are also not satisfied with the construction; that is why we are inspecting it along with my technical staff and we have given certain instructions to the workers also. After going back to Imphal, I will be calling all the contractors and we will take necessary actions for all the things that are required to be rectified. That will be done. And we will not compromise on quality.”
Naorem Praveen Singh added “the construction was kind of delayed because of the problem in Manipur. Now, we don’t foresee any major problem and construction of the project will resume in full swing. So, we instructed the contractors to engage more workers and complete the buildings by the last week of December. And immediately after completion, we will hand it over to the department of higher education, so that classes can be conducted in the new academic block.
He further added “now that the dry season has come, the construction will be completed by the end of December. I will have to come frequently. So this October month, I will visit again to see the progress. In the meantime, we have instructed the contractor to engage more workers and from tomorrow, one batch of workers is coming and if required, we will send more workers and we will complete by December end.”
Construction of Academic Block and Main Gate at Pettigrew College, Ukhrul was awarded to one Y Sunil Singh of Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak, Imphal West on December 4, 2021 by the Manipur Minorities And OBC Economic Development Society (MOBEDS), an autonomous body under the Department of MA/OBC & SC, Government of Manipur at an estimated cost of Rs 14, 98,15, 250/(Fourteen Crore Ninety Eight Lakh Fifteen Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty). The work had to be completed within 18 months.
The Academic Block will consist of 9 rooms on the ground floor and 10 rooms on the first floor. It will have 2 lecture theatre rooms and 4 seminar halls. The building will have A Block, B Block and C Block (Southern) and B Block and C Block (Northern).
Infrastructure Development Of Pettigrew College at Ukhrul District -Construction Of 100 Bedded Boys Hostel was also awarded with a tender value of Rs. 7.14 Crore and construction of 100 Bedded Girls Hostel with the same tender amount was awarded to another contractor.
