Deputy Commissioner, Kamjong Shri L.N. Kashung chaired the 18th meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) at the Camp Office of Deputy Commissioner, Kamjong, 2nd MR Complex, Imphal on Friday.

The meeting was held to review the action taken up by concerned line departments to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse in the Kamjong District.

Divisional Forest Officer, Kamjong Division, Napolean Rongmei, Chief Medical Officer, Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs), Officials of Education, Social Welfare Department, 40 Assam Rifles and District Administration attended the meeting among others.

While discussing the importance of destroying illegal poppy cultivation in the district, Deputy Commissioner L.N. Kashung directed the officials to remain vigil and map the cultivated areas so as to take up necessary actions.

Recalling the District Administration’s notice circulated earlier to village chiefs to restrain from cultivating poppy, the Deputy Commissioner asked the SDOs to remind the villagers of the notice served earlier. He further stressed the need to warn the villagers, who continue to cultivate poppy, of the action which could be taken up against them.

Stating that he would seek for more logistic support from the government if necessary, Kashung instructed the officials to keep continuous vigilance and carry out surveillance on where poppy is being cultivated for timely destruction and other necessary action.
