The office of the Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me (PNTM)- the apex students’ body of the Poumai Naga community, expresses its strongest condemnation of the alleged character assassination of Senior Police Officer Tholu Rocky (MPS), Superintendent of Police, Kamjong District, through the circulation of baseless and malicious allegations on social media, reportedly by members of the Kuki refugee community.
The statement issued by J Dalounii Angam, President of PNTM and J Pangao, General Secretary of PNTM reads “PNTM views such unverified allegations against a senior police officer with utmost seriousness. Making irresponsible accusations against an individual without credible evidence is unacceptable, as it can seriously damage a person’s reputation, dignity, and professional integrity.
“Tholu Rocky is known to us as a responsible officer and a person who carries out his duties with humanity, sincerity, and professionalism, while upholding government policies and the rule of law. When he was posted as Additional Superintendent of Police in Kangpokpi, he maintained cordial relations with members of the Kuki refugee community. Therefore, any attempt to malign his character through unsubstantiated allegations is deeply concerning and deserves serious attention from the competent authorities.
“The Poumai Naga Students’ Union strongly urges the Government of Manipur and the concerned law enforcement agencies to take swift and decisive action. This includes filing a First Information Report (F.I.R.) against those responsible for this reckless social media post, ensuring that the individual behind this malicious attack is held accountable. Identify those responsible for spreading the alleged false information, and take appropriate legal action against anyone found guilty in accordance with the law. The responsible authorities must ensure that social media platforms are not misused to spread misinformation, defame individuals, or undermine public trust. We firmly believe that no individual should be subjected to character assassination through baseless allegations, regardless of their position, community, or background. At the same time, any genuine allegation must be examined impartially and fairly through the due process of law.
“PNTM makes it unequivocally clear that if the authorities fail to take appropriate action despite credible evidence and due investigation, we will not remain silent. We will consider taking appropriate democratic and lawful measures to seek justice, accountability, and protection of the dignity of the officer concerned. We stand firmly against character assassination, misinformation, and the misuse of social media to destroy the reputation of any individual. Justice must prevail, truth must be established, and accountability must be upheld” added the statement of PNTM.
