The partisan overture of the ruling ministry in Imphal and the New Delhi towards the prevailing imbroglio in the hills of Manipur has been an absolute embarrassment to the sanity of the world’s largest democracy. What is the clandestine agenda of the BJP-led governments behind the Kuki’s open war campaign against the Nagas? This question requires no response from the responsible people in the corridor of power. The answer is lucidly written on the wall- for all to decipher and draw to a vivid conclusion.
The innocent Nagas have been abducted, looted, ambushed, killed, butchered, women molested, children harassed and houses burnt by the murderous and illegal migrant Kukis, without an iota of remorse and humanity, whilst paying no heed to the established law of the land. Yet, the governments remain pretentiously silent over the repetitive acts of terror unleashed against the Naga civilians in the hills of Manipur- a tiny State in the Union of India situated on the fringe of Indo-Myanmar international border.
In this official communiqué issued for public consumption, the Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) presents relevant cases of incidence that had occurred in the ongoing Kuki-Naga conflict in the State of Manipur. The presentations are solely intended to prod the public peruses and analyses the instances furnished hereunder:
Case No. 1:
When two (2) illegal migrants involved in narco-trade were killed in the poppy fields under the jurisdiction of Thawai village of Kamjong District, Manipur on the 11th of March 2026, the government did not even bother to officially investigate the matters. A day after the incidence, the Chief Minister of Manipur Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced that the cases would be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (The Hindu, 12 March 2026).
Case No. 2:
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India ordered the transfer of cases relating to the killing of three Thadou/Kuki Church leaders between Kotzim and Kotlen Kuki villages on the 13th of May 2026 to the National Investigation Agency (The Hindu, 24 June 2026). In fact, this crime was perpetrated by their own Kuki militant outfits- which probably stemmed from sharp political differences.
Whereas, the cases relating to the dead of any Kukis were hurriedly moved and transferred by the governments to the Central agency. However, when the Nagas were being ruthlessly abducted, ambushed and killed by the Kuki militants and Kuki narco-terrorists, the State and Central government hesitated to move the cases to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Here are some glaring instances furnished hereunder for ready reference:
1. On the 18th of April 2026, the Kuki militants ambushed the vehicles plying along the National Highway 202 near Litan Police Station, Ukhrul and shot dead two Naga civilians.
2. On the 24th of April 2026, the Kuki militants operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement which stationed at Mullam and Songphel villages launched a deadly assault on members of the Naga Village Guard (NVG), while they were on vigilant patrol duty near Sinakeithei village, Ukhrul District. A civil guard identified as Horshokmi Jamang was killed on the spot and four others sustained critical injuries.
3. On the 28th of April 2026, the members of the Naga Village Guard (NVG) were on a routine vigilant patrol duty at Ringui Horei hills, Ukhrul District when they came under heavy armed attack from the Kuki militants that resulted in five (5) persons injured critically.
4. On the 4th of May 2026, the Naga Village Guards on vigilant patrol duty at Ringui Horei hills, Ukhrul District, were fired upon by the Kuki SoO cadres and Kuki Narco terrorists. The attack came days after the combing operation carried out by the Security Forces at Horei hills on the 30th of April 2026.
5. On the 07th May 2026, the Myanmar’s People’s Democratic Party (PDF) backed by Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) committed an external aggression on the Naga villages namely Choro, Wanglee and Namlee situated along the Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB) under Kamjong District in the east of Manipur, in which several standing houses were razed to the ground and one person sustained injury.
6. On the 13th of May 2026, as many as 18 Liangmai Naga civilians including women and a child were waylaid and abducted at Leilon Vaiphei under Kangpokpi by the cadres of Kuki National Front-Presidential (KNF-P) in collusion with the Kuki villagers. Subsequently, the six (6) innocent Liangmai Naga men of the 18 abducted persons were butchered to dead, their bodies mutilated beyond recognition and the mortal remains were recovered only on the 10th of June 2026. In this case, the NIA moved into action only in the month of July 2026.
7. On the 13th of May 2026, the Kuki militants attacked Wilson Thanga (52), Oliv Jatung (42), a driver of a Bolero vehicle (MN 01 W 2877) and his wife Thoireithei Thanga (48), all hailing from Dollang Chiru Village, who were travelling to the farmhouse near Joujangtek, a Kuki village in Noney District. Wilson, a carpenter by profession, was killed on the spot, while Oliv and his wife sustained critical injuries during the barbaric attack. Immediately, the Chiru Union gave authorities a five-day deadline to arrest the responsible party.
8. On the 31st of May 2026, the three youths of Konsakhul (Konsaram) village who went out to repair the water supply pipeline were ambushed and indiscriminately fired upon by the Kuki militants from Leilon Vaiphei village border and one person sustained critical injury.
9. On the 8th of June 2026, Chunjanlung Panmei (57), a village authority member of Pongringlong Part-1 under Noney District, was abducted and killed by the Kuki militants, and his body was later found at around 1:30PM the same day.
10. On the 1st of July 2026, as many as 20 Kukis armed militants backed by KNA-B attacked and burnt the Tangkhul villages namely Huimin Thana (7 houses) and Kherongram (13 houses) a hamlet under Nampisha village, Kamjong District.
11. On the 14th of August 2026, the Kuki militants attacked Langka Naga farmers and killed two persons, while two others were injured grievously.
12. On the 27th of August 2026, the cold-blooded ambush between Makui Asang and Thanamba Naga village along the IT Road was carried out against the innocent Liangmai Naga civilians by the Kuki militants and narco-terrorists pertaining to the Kuki National Front-Presidential (KNF) and the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) under the command of Jangboi Kipgen, Home Secretary of the KNF and the United People’s Front (UPF) an umbrella organisation of Kuk-Zo militant groups in Manipur.
Ironically, the above stated cases as furnished from Sl. No. 1-12 (except Sl.No.6) did not qualify for the governments to hand over the grave cases to the National Investigation Agency of the country. All these attacks on the Naga civilians/villagers were coordinated and orchestrated by the Kuki militants operating under the SoO agreement with the Government of India, in collusion with the Kuki narco-terrorists and the foreign terror groups. Nevertheless, the responsible authorities have totally sidelined and overlooked the gross violation of universal human rights and external threats committed against the Nagas.
In view of the vexed situations arising from the way the governments are handling and managing the present Kuki-Naga conflict in the hills of Manipur, the Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) put forward the following most pertinent question and demand to the Government of Manipur and to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, as both the entities are responsible and answerable to the people:
1. Question:
Why the responsible governments have maintained a questionable silence over a series of crimes committed against humanity in the hills of Manipur by the Kuki militants operating under the suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the Government of India, and the serious external aggression perpetrated against the Nagas within the Constitutional and territorial jurisdiction of India?
2. Demand:
The Government of Manipur and the Government of India must initiate immediate and necessary statutory actions against all cases of abduction, looting, ambush, killings, molestation of women, harassment of children and arson perpetrated by the illegal migrant Kukis and Kuki militants operating under the suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with the Government of India, by transferring the matters to the NIA or constituting a high level Central commission at the earliest possible time. Further, the Government must address, rehabilitate and pay indemnity to the damages and losses in all forms incurred in the hands of the Kukis by the Nagas, and from external aggression in Choro, Wanglee, Namlee, Huimin Thana, and Kherongram of Nampisha village.
