As part of its social service and community outreach activities, the NCC Unit of St. Joseph College, Ukhrul, in collaboration with the District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU), Ukhrul, organised an awareness programme on HIV/AIDS through a vibrant flash mob at Gandhi Chowk, Ukhrul.

The programme aimed to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS, promote preventive measures, and encourage the community to develop a more informed and compassionate attitude towards people living with HIV.

The event was held in the presence of Dr. Yuithingla Vashum, along with officials and representatives associated with the DAPCU. The NCC cadets of St. Joseph College actively engaged the public through a series of songs, choreographed performances and an awareness speech, using music and creative expression to convey important messages on HIV/AIDS.

The flash mob drew the attention of pedestrians, commuters and members of the public gathered at Gandhi Chowk. The cadets used the opportunity to communicate messages on HIV prevention, awareness, responsible behaviour and the importance of removing stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS.

The energetic performances not only entertained the gathering but also transformed a busy public space into an avenue for meaningful social education. Through their coordinated presentation and direct engagement with passers-by, the cadets sought to make the awareness message accessible to people from different sections of society.

Lieutenant Chonchui, ANO, NCC Unit, St. Joseph College, Ukhrul, along Ms. Yurkhanthing Sachiri, Assistant Professor, and Head of the department of Sociology, was present throughout the programme, providing guidance, encouragement and moral support to the cadets.

The initiative reflected the commitment of the NCC Unit of St. Joseph College to community service, social responsibility and youth-led awareness initiatives. It also demonstrated how young people can use their creativity, discipline and collective action to address important public health and social issues.

The programme concluded with a positive response from the public, with the cadets successfully taking the message of awareness, prevention, compassion and a stigma-free society beyond the classroom and into the community.
