The press release of NSCN- Provisional Government, Mt. Horeb on 2 October 2026 has expressed their profound sadness and deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the eleven lives lost in Tuensang district and of the nine lives claimed in Makokchung district following the consumption of suspected spurious liquor. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved, and we wish a swift and full recovery to those still hospitalised. These were not mere statistics. They were our brothers – Naga lives extinguished by calculated greed” stated the press release.
“This tragedy did not emerge from nothing. It was seeded, nurtured and allowed to flourish in the shadows of our own law. Certain elements, acting with cold intent have weaponised the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act of 1989, a law born of our collective moral conviction and turned it into an instrument of quiet slaughter. Through adulterated and spurious liquor, they are killing our people silently day by day in our towns and villages. This is not an accident. This is the design” stated the statement issued by the Media & Publicity Cell, Provisional Government, NSCN/GPRN.
“The Provisional Government views this development with unreserved disapproval. Therefore, serious investigations are underway and we assure the people of Nagaland that every individual found guilty and every network connected to this grievous criminal enterprise shall be held fully accountable.
“But accountability cannot rest on the Provisional Government alone. The silence of institutions that ought to thunder in moral outrage is deafening. The Nagaland Baptist Churches Council (NBCC), which has wholly advocated for prohibition must not remain silent while our people perish. We do not condemn the NBCC we call upon it to awaken. Likewise, the Naga civil society cannot remain idle. If prohibition is to be truly enforced, we must stand together as one people, one voice and one conscience.
“The blind eye turned by the Nagaland government cannot and will not be accepted. A body vested with such authority and power; if it takes no action must itself be held questionable. Indifference at such a moment is not neutrality – it is complicity.
“Therefore, the Provisional Government respectfully calls upon every citizen of Nagaland to remain vigilant and to join hands in the effective implementation of the NLTP Act. Your full and sincere cooperation is earnestly sought. Unison in the enforcement of the NLTP is at this hour an urgent necessity.
“The death demands justice. The living demands action. Let us not fail them both” added the press release issued by the Media & Publicity Cell, Provisional Government, NSCN/GPRN.
