All Tribal Disable’s Union Manipur (ATDUM) on Wednesday gave away the prizes for Social Media Contes. The event was held to address the barriers preventing people with disabilities in India from accessing essential assistive products, services and systems.

T Chuongsin Koireng, General Secretary of ATDUM stated that “Assistive Technology (AT) refers to the application of organized knowledge and skills related to assistive products, systems, and services. An assistive product is any external device, equipment, instrument, or software designed to maintain or improve an individual’s functioning and reduce barriers to participation in all aspects of life. Examples include wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids, closed-captioning displays, screen readers, video communication devices, spectacles, deafblind communicators, and pill organizers.”

“Access to assistive technology is a human right. It empowers individuals to live more independently, participate fully in society, and unlock their everyday potential. Those who benefit most from assistive technology include older persons, persons with disabilities, individuals living with non-communicable diseases, and people with mental health conditions, including dementia”

To commemorate the 3rd World Assistive Technology Day on June 4, 2026, the All Tribal Disables’ Union Manipur (ATDUM), in partnership with the Bangladesh Disabled Development Trust (BDDT) and ATscale—the Global Partnership for Assistive Technology, organized an Assistive Technology Social Media Contest. The competition was held from May 16 to May 30, 2026, with the aim of increasing awareness, expanding the reach of assistive technology-related content, and promoting its positive impact within the community. The competition was conducted across various social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn, to maximize participation and engagement.

There are three winner’s categories in the competition

– Best Content

– Most Reached Post (Number of unique people who saw your post)

– Most Shared Post

The winner of the Best Content Award goes to Ms. Chakpram Lokeshori Devi, a wheelchair user with a locomotor disability and an international wheelchair basketball player who proudly represents India on the global stage. In her facebook post, she emphasized that disability should never prevent anyone from pursuing their dreams. She encouraged persons with disabilities to believe in themselves, recognize their potential, and confidently showcase their talents. She also urged parents to support and motivate their children with disabilities so that they can live independently, confidently, and with dignity.

Furthermore, she highlighted the growing concern that, despite rapid urbanization and the construction of public facilities such as government offices, clinics, restaurants, shopping malls, gyms, and other establishments, many of these places remain inaccessible to persons with disabilities, particularly wheelchair users. She called upon the concerned authorities, policymakers, architects, and construction companies to prioritize accessibility and inclusive design in all public infrastructure projects. She stressed that equal access is a fundamental right for everyone and that creating accessible environments is essential for building a more inclusive society.

The winner of the Most Reached Post category goes to Dominic Vanlalpekhlua, whose content reached 3,323 people on instagram. Meanwhile, Jandiya Soubam Devi won the Most Shared Post category, with her post being shared 652 times on facebook, demonstrating exceptional engagement and audience impact.

Furthermore, the three winners will be featured alongside 27 other winners from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and the Philippines during a regional webinar for global Assistive Technology Day June 4, 2026.
