A flagging off ceremony of newly procured vehicles of Manipur Police under the Assistance to States for Modernisation of Police (ASUMP) Scheme of the Government of India was held today at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground, Imphal. The programme was organized by Manipur Police in the presence of senior civil and police officials, officers and personnel of Manipur Police.
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur, Y. Khemchand Singh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Hon’ble Home Minister, K. Govindas Singh, attended the programme as the Guest of Honour.
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur, Y. Khemchand Singh, in his address, stated that the procurement would significantly improve infrastructure, mobility, and response capabilities of the police forces, particularly in hill areas. He lauded the efforts of the DGP and his team in securing approval and procurement of such a major package for Manipur Police. He also acknowledged the tremendous role and sacrifices made by Manipur Police in controlling the violence that engulfed the State since 3rd May 2023. The Hon’ble Chief Minister assured that the Government of Manipur would continue to strengthen and modernize Manipur Police and further improve the welfare of police personnel through various measures, including enhancement of ration money, uniform allowance, and monthly remuneration. He also commended the role played by the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB, and other sister agencies in maintaining security and peace in the State. Further, he appealed to the public not to resort to violent activities, including the use of catapults and projectiles against security forces during protests, and emphasized that issues should be resolved through peaceful dialogue.
Hon’ble Home Minister, K. Govindas Singh, in his speech, thanked the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and the Hon’ble Union Home Minister on behalf of the Government of Manipur for approving the scheme which enabled procurement of a large number of vehicles for Manipur Police. He lauded the efforts made by the DGP, Manipur, which resulted in the procurement of such a huge fleet of vehicles that would significantly enhance the efficiency, mobility, and responsiveness of Manipur Police. He appealed to the police fraternity to further improve police-public relations and continue to function as a public-friendly police force. He also emphasized the need to strengthen the intelligence network through greater cooperation
Speaking on the occasion, the Director General of Police, Manipur Rajiv Singh stated that the induction of the newly procured vehicles marks another significant step towards strengthening the operational capability, mobility, responsiveness and forces were obstructed while performing their lawful duties during such operations. He emphasized that extortionists and anti-social elements are major obstacles to peace, progress, education, trade, and the future of the youth, and urged all sections of society to support the efforts of the security forces in restoring normalcy in the State. He clarified that the Police here to assist and serve the public and that the fight of the Police is against insurgents, anti-social elements, extortionists, criminals and scammers who are disturbing peace and stability in the State. He further stated that the State Police have been handling protests in a calibrated and restrained manner so as to cause minimum damage to innocent members of the public and protestors.
The DGP expressed gratitude to the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of Manipur, Hon’ble Governor, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Hon’ble Home Minister of Manipur, Chief Secretary, Security Advisor, and all stakeholders for their continued support towards the modernization and strengthening of Manipur Police. He also thanked all security forces and every officer and personnel of Manipur Police for their unwavering support, dedication, and service under challenging circumstances. He stated that he is proud to lead Manipur Police, which he described as a highly capable, committed, and professional force.
