The Kuki CSO Working Committee Ukhrul has directed the Kuki Chief’s Association (KCA) to collect Hill House Tax from Kuki villages in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts and submits the remittance to Kangpokpi District authorities. It also directed Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) to install hoardings/signages identifying Kuki villages of Ukhrul and Kamjong as falling under Kangpokpi district.
The statement reads “the Kuki CSO Working Committee (WCKCSOs)- Ukhrul records its strongest exception to the persistent and systemic failure of the Government of Manipur and the Government of India to address the legitimate grievances and existential concerns of the Kuki-Zo populace in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
“Despite sustained representations, the concerned governments have failed at the policy and administrative level to ensure adequate civilian security arrangements, operationalise the 19 March MoU, and provide any viable alternative administrative mechanism for public convenience, thereby subjecting the affected populace to prolonged insecurity, administrative paralysis, and institutional neglect.
“The gravity of such failure stands further aggravated by the relentless intermittent attacks carried out by NSCN (EF) on 22/05/2026, wherein Mongkot Chepu came under repeated assault from the direction of Sikibung at approximately 6:39 AM, 8:14 AM, 11:35 AM, 2:28 PM, 3:30 PM, 7:54 PM, and 8:28 PM. Further, Patleijang came under attack from the direction of TM Kasom/Roudei at around 10:30 PM on the same day by the same force. The continued failure of the authorities to prevent recurring hostilities has gravely eroded public confidence.”
Accordingly, WCKCSOs-Ukhrul hereby issues the following directives with immediate effect:
1. Direction to KCA
The Kuki Chiefs’ Association (KCA) is hereby directed to undertake the collection of all Hill House Tax from Kuki villages in Ukhrul and Kamjong and accordingly propose a date for the formal remittance of such tax to Kangpokpi district authorities.
2. Direction to KSO-Ukhrul
The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO)-Ukhrul is hereby instructed to intensify peaceful yet resolute democratic agitation, including the installation of hoardings/signages identifying Kuki villages of Ukhrul and Kamjong as falling under Kangpokpi district, in coordination with local youth clubs and village authorities before 01/06/26.
“WCKCSOs-Ukhrul unequivocally asserts that these measures are necessitated by the continued governmental apathy, repeated security failures, and administrative indifference confronting the Kuki-Zo populace. The concerned authorities shall bear full responsibility for any further deterioration arising from continued inaction” added the statement issued by the Department of Information and Media, WCKCSOs – Ukhrul.
