The Kuki CSO Working Committee (WCKCSOs), along with the Village Authority of Mongkot Chepu, held a solemn candlelight vigil to honour BSF Constable Mithun Mandal of 170/A Battalion, who made the ultimate sacrifice on April 10, 2026 while protecting the lives of villagers at Mongkot Chepu.

A silent procession from Mongkot Chepu Christian Church to the site of the incident was followed by a brief programme attended by village authorities of Mongkot Chepu, Church representatives, and organisations including KSO-Ukhrul and Kuki Inpi-Ukhrul, reflecting unity in grief and gratitude.

In her address, Mercy Khongsai, Vice President of KSO-Ukhrul, affirmed that Constable Mandal “took the bullets meant for us,” stressing that no misinformation can diminish the truth of his bravery. A one-minute silence was observed, and Pastor Thonngam Khongsai offered prayers for the bereaved family, the security forces deployed in the area and the Border Security Forces in particular.

“WCKCSOs strongly condemns any attempt to misrepresent his sacrifice. Constable Mithun Mandal’s courage and selflessness will forever be remembered with honour and defended with truth” stated the statement issued by the Department of Information and Media, WCKCSOs-Ukhrul
