The Kuki CSO Working Committee Ukhrul has decided to go ahead with the shutdown of National Highway 202 (Imphal-Ukhrul Road) with the expiry of 72 hours ultimatum with effect from 12 April 2026.

On 7 April 2026, the Kuki CSO Working Committee Ukhrul has issued an ultimatum to Tangkhul CSOs to allow passage of goods for Kuki areas or face a complete shutdown of National Highway-202.

The statement stated “the Kuki CSO Working Committee (WCKCSOs) issued this statement as a follow-up to the ultimatum served on 07 April 2026 in regards to the economic blockade at Wunghon by Tangkhul Women..

“WCKCSOs reiterate with utmost seriousness the growing humanitarian concerns arising from what we describe as an informal and selective economic restriction at Wunghon by some Tangkhul women affecting the supply of food and daily essentials to Kuki-inhabited areas. Such conditions have caused significant hardship to the general public and have deepened grievances within the community.

“The intent of WCKCSOs remains rooted in fairness, justice, and humanitarian principles for all communities. We also take this opportunity to firmly clarify and reject the long-standing and repeated allegations against Kukis regarding the restriction of movement along NH-202. These claims are unfounded and misrepresent the ground reality.

“Given that the grievances of the Kuki people have reached a critical point, and noting that the ultimatum issued earlier did not yield the necessary response or intervention, WCKCSOs regret to state that we are no longer in a position to assume any moral responsibility with regard to ensuring free movement along NH-202.

“With effect from 12 April 2026, no Kuki CSOs, volunteers, or members of the Kuki public should be held accountable for any untoward incidents that may occur along NH-202, particularly along the stretch between Litan Sareikhong and Mongneljang.

“After repeated appeals were ignored, this step has become unavoidable. The government shall be solely responsible for any escalation that occurs from this point onward” stated the statement issued by the Department of Information and Media, WCKCSOS-Ukhrul.
