The 4th edition of State Level Barak Festival 2025 begins at Senapati District, Manipur under the theme “Heritage In Harmony“.

MLA of 48-Mao Constituency, Losii Dikho who attended the prelude as Chief Guest lauded the NPO and all its subordinate units and tribe Hohos for the initiatives. He calls for making this historic place a hot destination for tourist attractions in the coming days.

Former President of UNC, L. Adani Mao in his theme exposition stated that “we have celebrated Barak Festival as a uniting and harmonising platform for the people. We have celebrated it to promote conservation of the Barak River and the environment and ecology. We also aim to showcase the rich vibrant culture of the people to the rest of the world.”

The Barak Festival is named after the Barak River which originates at Liyai Village under Senapati District and reflects the river’s deep cultural and spiritual importance to the communities it nurtures.

Originally a thanksgiving celebration, the Barak Festival has grown into a major cultural platform showcasing the traditions and identity of the five tribes of Senapati—Mao, Maram, Poumai Naga, Thangal, and Zeliangrong—along with other communities of Manipur.

Initiated by the Naga People’s Organisation in 2013 and declared a State-Level Festival in 2017, it is now observed annually from 12th–14th December, marking a vibrant celebration of heritage, tourism, and social harmony.

The 4th Edition State Level Barak Festival 2025, themed “Heritage in Harmony,” celebrates the cultural unity of Senapati District, Manipur.

In the afternoon, the first-ever Barak Literary Festival was held with active participation from students and teachers. It was a platform to celebrate language and literature under the theme “River of Stories”.
