The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) the apex student body of Tangkhul community has expressed its deep indignation and outrage over the disturbing incident that took place at Manipur University on the evening of 7 November 2025.
“Let campuses be places of learning – not violence. No student deserves to be abused or assaulted for simply being who they are” stated Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong.
According to the condemnation statement issued by Information and Publicity of TKS stated that, “Somichan Keishing, a student pursuing his Master of Arts in National Security Studies (NSS) and the incumbent Speaker of the Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (TKLI), was subjected to verbal abuse and physical assault by his fellow hostel mates at Hostel No. 5, Room No. 28, while he was cleaning his room. The attack, which occurred without any provocation or wrongdoing on his part, exposes the deep-rooted intolerance and lack of discipline that continues to plague the campus environment.
“The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) strongly condemns this barbaric and cowardly act in the strongest possible terms. We demand that the University administration, law enforcement authorities, and all concerned officials take swift, transparent, and uncompromising action against every individual involved. Justice must not only be served it must be visible and exemplary.”
The Saklong further urges the Manipur University administration to uphold its responsibility in ensuring that educational institutions remain sacred spaces of knowledge, harmony, and unity not arenas of violence, prejudice, or communal discrimination. The credibility of the University depends on its ability to protect the safety and dignity of every student.
“We stand in absolute solidarity with Somichan Keishing and extend our unwavering support to him and his family. The Saklong will closely monitor this case until justice is delivered and the perpetrators are held fully accountable” added the TKS statement.
