Knife Attack Left 2 Police Officers Injured In Ukhrul District

In a bizarre incident, a man by the name Firstman Rungsung (54 Yrs) S/o Kapangkhui Rungsung of Talui village stabbed the Officer-in-Charge of Somdal Police Station namely Inspector Krili James while the latter was explaining the Warrant of Arrest issued agains the former by the court of the Session Judge, Ukhrul.

Ukhrul Police informed that “on 16 January 2026 at around 11: 00 a.m, the police officer along with his personnel, went to the house of the warrantee and while he was explaining about the issuance of warrant of arrest to the mother of the warrantee, the warrantee took out a knife which he kept concealed on his back and suddenly stabbed the police officer on his chest. When the injured officer fell down on the ground, the other unarmed police personnel tried to overpower the assailant. However, he charged them as well with the knife. So, the injured officer and his police personnel escaped from the scene. Some villagers came to the rescue and took the injured police Inspector to local PHC where he was given first aid and later referred to District Hospital, Ukhrul.

Reinforcement from district headquarters under the command of SDPO Jessami, Chonreigam Raising (MPS) and Inspector Marchang W, OC of Ukhrul Police Station rushed to the spot to cause the arrest of the assailant. On seeing the police personnel, the assailant instead of surrendering, started to attack the police personnel again. The police has to use minimum force and risking their lives tried to overpower him with bare hands.

During the melee, Inspector Marchang W suffered cut wounds on his hand. However, the assailant was overpowered and captured. In connection with the incident, a criminal case under FIR No. 1(1)2026 Somdal PS U/S 109/118/221 BNS is registered against Firstman Rungsung for investigation.
