As part of the nationwide observance of Sewa Parv 2025, the Ukhrul Forest Division (UFD), under the leadership of Laishram Gitla, DFO/Ukhrul, actively organized a series of awareness and community-based programmes across the district from 17 September to 2 October 2025. The celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, artisans, village communities, and Forest Department staff, making the occasion both vibrant and meaningful.

Highlights of the Activities

1. Capacity Building for Forest Artisans (17ᵗʰ–18ᵗʰ September)

Training on bee-keeping and value addition of squash (chayote) was conducted under the supervision of Nongmaithem Bikram, Range Officer (Chingai).

Skill development sessions on photography and videography were imparted to local artisans by Bigyananda Soraisam (Soraisam Photography), a renowned photographer from Manipur, empowering participants with livelihood skills linked to forest resources.

2. Awareness & Competitions (19ᵗʰ September)

Students took part in essay writing and painting competitions on the theme “Living with Wildlife”, fostering environmental awareness and creativity among the younger generation. The program was organised at the Office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Ukhrul.

3. Anti-Polythene and Swachhata Drives

The drives were held on 20ᵗʰ–23ʳᵈ September, 26ᵗʰ September & 2ⁿᵈ October. Cleanliness campaigns and anti-polythene drives were organized at Ukhrul Bazaar, Hundung Beat Office, the DFO Office Campus, Ngahui village, and the Ukhrul Town Main Road.

These activities, led by Chermishan ASP, Range Forest Officer (Ukhrul HQ), reinforced the message of creating a plastic-free, clean, and green environment.

4. Community Tree Plantation Drives

Tree plantations were held on 24ᵗʰ, 25ᵗʰ, 27ᵗʰ, 30ᵗʰ September & 1ˢᵗ October. The community tree plantation drives were held at Lunghar, Jessami, Litan, and Ngahui villages, and in schools at Jessami.

Guided by K. Siyo, Range Forest Officer (Jessami) along with concerned Beat Officers, these initiatives highlighted the role of forests in climate resilience and biodiversity conservation.

Plantation activities are expected to enhance local greenery, support soil conservation, and improve biodiversity in the long run.

5. Awareness on Single-Use Plastic

An impactful awareness programme against single-use plastic was held at Hungpung village on 29 September, promoting sustainable alternatives and waste reduction practices. Over 500 participants, including schoolchildren, artisans, and villagers, actively took part in the events. The drives contributed to reducing plastic use, promoting forest-based livelihoods, and nurturing a culture of cleanliness and conservation.

The Ukhrul Forest Division reaffirms its commitment to building a clean, green, and sustainable future. With community participation at its core, Sewa Parv 2025 has created a lasting impact in Ukhrul district, strengthening the collective resolve towards environmental protection and sustainable development.
