The Environment and Rural Development Society (EARDS) joyfully celebrated the International Day of Older Persons on Wednesday at Happy Home – Home of the Aged, Bungpa Khullen, Kamjong District.
The event honoured the invaluable wisdom and contributions of the elderly, with around 80 senior residents participating in the celebration.
The event was graced by Col. Sumit Acharya of the 8 Assam Rifles (AR), who attended as Special Guest of Honour. As part of their continued civic action and community outreach efforts, the 8 AR made generous donations to this home. Their contribution had always brought smiles and comfort to the residents, reflecting the compassionate role of the armed forces in local welfare.
Spiritual blessings were offered by respected pastors, C. Vicka, Pastor, Bungpa Khullen A Baptist Church, Rev. Praise Zingkhai, Pastor, Grihang Baptist Church and Vinme Kasar, Pastor, Leiyatang Baptist Church – Kamjong
The celebration featured the distribution of awards and recognitions to elders for their resilience and contribution to the community, followed by a grand feast shared in love and unity.
The Environment and Rural Development Society (EARDS) is a dedicated grassroots NGO working to uplift rural and remote communities across Northeast India. Its areas of focus include elderly care, environmental protection and awareness, livelihood development, women empowerment and youth empowerment, ommunity health and social inclusion.
Happy Home – Home of the Aged is one of EARDS’s flagship initiatives, offering care, dignity, and a sense of family to the elderly in the hills of Kamjong. EARDS extends heartfelt thanks to the 8 Assam Rifles, local churches, community leaders, and all well-wishers who contributed to the success of this meaningful celebration.
