In a historic and daring mission, Ex-Minister of RD & PR, MLA Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday visited Ukhrul and Kamjong Districts with a mission for restoring peace in the State.
MLA Yumnam Khemchand Singh is the first elected representatives from the Meitei community to ever visit IDP Relief Camp at Litan Sareikhong, Ukhrul District, Manipur since the unfortunate incident of May 3, 2023.
MLA Yumnam Khemchand Singh interacted with the people at Litan and also visited the IDP Relief Camp at Litan Sareikhong. “Because of the ongoing conflict in Manipur and the restriction of movement, many developments have been hampered and have affected the growth of our future. The younger generation is at stake because of the ongoing turmoil. With the onset of Christmas, it is time for all the community to come together and work for restoring peace in Manipur. We should forgive and forget one another and strive for bringing peace and equal development in the state” stated Yumnam Khemchand Singh
He further continued, “I expressed my sincere gratitude to the Tangkhul brothers and sisters for their efforts in trying to bridge the gap between the various communities in Manipur during this challenging time.”
MLA Yumnam Khemchand Singh and team interacted with the women vendors and had a morning tea at the roadside tea stall run by a Kuki at Litan.
Nehpu Khongsai of S. Bongjang Village, Island Block an IDP at Litan Sareikhong relief camp expressed immense gratitude to MLA Yumnam Khemchand Singh for visiting the camp and showering with financial assistance as a Christmas gift. “It is almost 3 years now, since we have taken shelter at Litan Sareikhong IDP Camp. I appeal to the Government, we are weary and long for normalcy to return so that we can go back to our village at the earliest.”
There are around 505 inmates of IDPs at Litan Sareikhong relief camp.
Yumnam Khemchand Singh was accompanied by Hopingson A Shimray, 2022 MLA candidate from BJP, 43-Phungyar AC, Mark Luithing, Former Care-Taker Chairman of ADC Ukhrul and BJP workers and leaders from Ukhrul and Phungyar Constituencies.
Hopingson A Shimray lauded the initiative and peace journey undertaken by MLA Yumnam Khemchand Singh. “Today’s journey is a long cherished dreams and vision of MLA Yumnam Khemchand Singh in restoring peace in the state. Somewhere we have to start, there has to be a beginning, with that in mind and with the onset of Christmas, we have taken the opportunity to spread the message of love and unity among the different communities in Manipur” added Hopingson A Shimray.
Yumnam Khemchand Singh is a Bharatiya Janata Party politician from Manipur, India. He was elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly election in 2017 and 2022 from Singjamei constituency as a BJP candidate. He was the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly (2017–2022) and Ex-Minister RD & PR. Yumnam Khemchand Singh also promised to undertake the journey of peace and its message to the other parts of Manipur.
