The Watershed Cell cum Data Centre (WCDC) and DRDA Ukhrul on Thursday observed Watershed Mahotsav – A Nation-wide Campaign at DRDA Hall, Mini Secretariat Complex, Ukhrul.
The observation was attended by Asish Das (IAS), Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Polly Makan (MCS), Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul and Project Director of DRDA Ukhrul and Zulfi Shah, Project Officer, DRDA Ukhrul among others.
In a symbolic display to mark the observation, Asish Das planted a tree sapling inside the premise of Mini Secretariat Complex, Ukhrul. He also distributed sapling to the project implementing villages.
Speaking at the occasion, Polly Makan stated that “engaging the community about the importance of management and conservation of natural resources has become one of the greatest challenges.” She added that everyone has a role to play in raising awareness and conservation of natural resources.
The Watershed Mahotsav has emerged as an effective platform to engage the community and raise awareness about the importance of watershed management and natural resource conservation.
The enthusiastic participation by all the stakeholders in the event, is a testament to the community’s commitment to sustainable development. The campaign aims to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility among the local community towards the protection and preservation of their natural resources.It also aimed at strengthening community involvement in watershed development and long-term sustainability.
The WCDC is a dedicated cell established at the district level to oversee the implementation, coordination, supervision, and monitoring of watershed development programs within the district.
In Ukhrul District, the project is being implemented in 5 villages, namely- Lunghar, Khamsom, Sihai Huishu and K Phungrei. Around 50 people from the 5 implementing villages attended the programme
