The National Highway 202- Development Committee, Ukhrul District Manipur has called for an indefinite shutdown of the NH-202 Imphal-Ukhrul route will be imposed effective from the mid-night of 8th March 2026, until all outstanding grievances are fully addressed and a settlement is formalised.

The press release stated that “on the 3rd February, 2026, Ashish Das, Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul; Salman Khan, Manager, Project Monitoring Unit (PMU)/Ukhrul; and the National Highway-202 Development Committee, Ukhrul District, Manipur, held a joint meeting at Majesty Restaurant, Hungsei, Hungpung (near District Hospital) to address the concerns pertaining to the stretch from Finch Corner to Choithar Junction under the PKG-III and PKG-IV of the ongoing NH-202 Double Lane Expansion along the Imphal-Ukhrul route.

“During the meeting, the parties reached an agreement under which the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul, and the Manager, PMU/UKL, committed to redress all grievances and rectify the shortfalls raised by the Committee on behalf of the affected landowners along the aforesaid stretch and the general public of the district within the month of February, 2026. It was mutually understood that in the event of failure to translate this assurance into concrete action, the Committee reserves the right to impose an indefinite blockade as the commitment given by Deputy Commissioner and Manager, PMU/UKL, NHIDCL. In view of this understanding, the Committee called off its proposed 72 hrs. blockade of the highway, which was scheduled to commence from the 4th March, 2026.

“However, the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul District and the Manager, PMU/UKL, have so far failed to take any tangible action to honour the assurance within the stipulated timeframe. Consequently, the Committee is now constrained to resume its agitation. An indefinite shutdown of the NH-202 Imphal-Ukhrul route will be imposed effective from the mid-night of 8th March 2026, until all outstanding grievances are fully addressed and a settlement is formalised.

“The National Highway-202 Development Committee, Ukhrul District, appeals to all stakeholders, including local Civil Society Organisations and the general public, for maximum support and cooperation during the proposed indefinite blockade” stated the press release issued by AS Edmund Hungshi, Secretary, NH. 202, Development Committee Ukhrul District, Manipur.
