The Ukhrul Forest Division, Government of Manipur, successfully organized a series of competitions in relation with the celebration of the 71st Wildlife Week 2025 under the theme “Human–Animal Co-existence.”
As part of the celebration, Students from across Ukhrul district enthusiastically participated in the Essay Writing Competition & Painting Competition which were organised on 19th September, 2025 at the office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Phungreitang, Ukhrul. The events were aimed at fostering environmental awareness, creativity and a deeper understanding of the need for harmonious living with wildlife.
After a spirited contest, the following students emerged as District-Level Winners:
Painting (Category I: Class V–VIII):
1st – Kajal Kumari (Ukhrul Public School)
2nd – Gladestone Sarang (Ukhrul Central School)
3rd – Ngankimliu Gonmei (KTL Excel Hr. Sec. School)
Painting (Category II: Class IX–XII):
1 st – Leiyarin Awungshi (KTL Hr. Sec. School)
2nd – Wungnaoting Hungyo (Sacred Heart Hr. Sec. School)
3rd – Hansomi Chamroy (Ukhrul Public School)
Essay Writing (Category I: Class V–VIII):
1 st – Worchuirin Zimik (Sacred Heart Hr. Sec. School)
2nd – PISKKN Kaping (Ukhrul Public School)
3rd – Savy Kaiwungnao (St. George School)
Essay Writing (Category II: Class IX–X):
1 st – Ruchi Kumari (Ukhrul Central School)
2nd – Singsing Kaping (Ukhrul Public School)
3rd – Zingror Ningshen (St. George School)
The Prize Distribution Ceremony was held today at the Office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Ukhrul, where winners received certificates and cash-awards in the presence of teachers, guardians, and forest officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Laishram Gitla, Divisional Forest Officer, Ukhrul, highlighted the importance of Wildlife Week as an opportunity to inspire the younger generation towards conservation. She emphasized that sensitizing children on Living with Wildlife is crucial for sustainable coexistence and protection of biodiversity in the region. DFO stated that the students are the future stewards of our forests and wildlife. Their creativity and passion are the seeds of a more harmonious future.
The winning entries from Ukhrul district have also been forwarded to the office of the Chief Wildlife Warden, Manipur, for consideration at the State-Level Competitions. A Wildlife Quiz Competition will also be held on 4th October, 2025 at Poarei, Shirui at 11:00. Detailed information may be sought from the office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
