The District Administration of Ukhrul has started carrying out an eviction drive along National Highway 202 on Thursday.
After repeated notification and having cleared payment of over 90% of the sanctioned compensation amount, the proceedings of eviction is initiated.
The District Magistrate of Ukhrul on 21 January 2026 had issued an eviction order stating, “in continuation to the eviction order of even No. issued by this Office dated 07.01.2026, regarding the affected land owners from chainage Km 11+800 to Km 12+600 (i.e. 800 Km) at Litan Sareikhong, Ukhrul Sub-Division, Ukhrul District, eviction shall be carried out against landowners who fail to comply with the order.
“The eviction shall be conducted as per the provisions of the National Highway Act, 1956, sub-section (2) of Section 3E of the Act, on 22.01.2026 at 1:00 PM under the supervision and direction of the Sub-Divisional Officer, Ukhrul.
“Landowners are hereby advised to ensure compliance with the eviction order to avoid the enforcement proceedings” stated the order signed by Asish Das (IAS), District Magistrate, Ukhrul.

DUE PROCESS
As per sub-section (2) of Section 3(D) of the national Highways Act, on publication of the declaration under sub-section (1) of Section 3D, the land shall vest absolutely in the Central Government free from all encumbrances.
Further, Section 3E of the Act empowers the competent authority to take possession.

EVICTION PROCESS FOR 22 JANUARY 2026
Therefore, in the absence of cooperation from the affected individuals notwithstanding repeated notification and having cleared payment of over 90% of the sanctioned compensation amount, the proceedings of eviction is initiated vide Eviction Order No. 10/186/2022-REV(UKL):/0967 dated 21.01.2026, as necessitated to implement the project.
1. The Sub-Divisional Officer/Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Ukhrul shall be responsible for the enforcement of the order of eviction.
2. Only the illegal encroachment/structures on the lands as notified shall be evicted.
3. The local police and requisitioned forces shall act only on the orders and directions of the Competent Authority, and the person duly authorized by the Competent Authority i.e. SDO/SDM Ukhrul.
4. Obstructions to the eviction proceedings shall be addressed strictly as per law.
5. The eviction proceedings shall be carried out without the use of force as far as possible, and where necessary, minimal force shall be used only to the extent required to affect the eviction process.
“All stakeholders concerned are requested to extend full cooperation to the Competent Authority on Land Acquisition (CALA), Ukhrul” stated the order issues by Asish Das (IAS) District Magistrate/ CALA Ukhrul.
Sources informed that four excavator machines are being deployed during the eviction drive. The process is likely to continue till Friday.
