A new OPD exclusively for cancer patients wherein OPD consultations can be made virtually in real time with the top oncologists (cancer super specialists) of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai has been opened and made it functional today at District Hospital Ukhrul by using the modern digital information technology interface.

“This will allow the patient to directly interact with the cancer specialists (oncologist) at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai from this newly opened Tele Oncology OPD without the need for the patient to be physically present at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai” informed Dr. Reisangmi Raikhan, Medical Superintendent of Ukhrul District Hospital.

The project was taken up under the initiative and support from an NGO, e-gov foundation, and in collaboration with the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai and District Hospital, Ukhrul.

“The objective of this project is to mitigate the financial burden suffered by many cancer patients and their families in travelling outside the State for their periodical reviews and check ups incurring great financial burden to their families” added Dr. Reisangmi Raikhan.

A 67 year old lady patient became the first patient in availing this facility for consultation with the oncologist of Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai today.

The newly opened Tele Oncology OPD facility at Ukhrul District Hospital is now ready for any cancer patient willing to have such consultations with the top oncologists at Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai.
