The Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long -Tangkhul Naga Youth Council has expressed strong discontent with the FIR against Ashang Kasar, Chief Advisor of the Indigenous People’s Forum by Lungoulen Guite at Kangpokpi Police Station. The filing of the FIR can have the potential to incite communal unrest under the pretext of legal action.
Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long expresses deep anguish and utter shock over the filing of FIR reportedly filed by one Lungoulen Guite at Kangpokpi Police Station against Ashang Kasar, Chief Advisor of the Indigenous People’s Forum, in connection with remarks made, expressing his views regarding the alleged dead body found in Naga jurisdiction during the Impact TV-Manung Hutna broadcast on 12 March 2026.
The TMNL statement reads “from all available information, Ashang Kasar’s remarks were made in the context of urging proper verification of the identity of the deceased before any official announcement or administrative action being taken and that the matter should be handled in accordance with the due process of the Law. Raising such concerns for verification and due process should not be twisted or misrepresented as an attempt to spread misinformation or create communal tension.
“At the time the statement was made, information regarding the incident was still emerging and the identities of the deceased had not been officially confirmed. In such circumstances, Ashang Kasar’s remarks were a call for responsible handling of a sensitive matter and should not be criminalized.
“Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long views the filing of the FIR by Lungoulen Guite as unfortunate and unnecessary, particularly when the statement in question was clearly made in the interest of ensuring due process. Such actions only risk creating further misunderstanding and tension among communities. It is therefore shocking that an FIR has been lodged against him in a manner that appears intended to tarnish his reputation.
“The filing of the FIR appears to have the potential to incite communal unrest under the pretext of legal action. Any action that is perceived as vindictive or ill-considered during such a sensitive period risk aggravating tensions and precipitating avoidable unrest. As such immediate withdrawal of FIR would be wise and prudent. We also call upon all concerned communities to act with maturity and responsibility while dealing with sensitive public matters.
“Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long remain steadfast to safeguarding peace and dignity for the welfare of the community at large” added the statement issued by Information and Publicity Wing, Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long.
