The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and Hunphun Katamnao Long (HKL) on Friday carried out a joint inspection on the ongoing construction of Pettigrew College Academic Block, boys and girls hostel.
President of TKS, Ramreichan Keishing expressed dissatisfaction with the poor work quality and the negligence of the contractors in executing the projects. He also pointed out the delay in completion of the said work for more than two years behind the schedule completion time has severely affected the academic session.
The lone government college in the district, which was established in 1965 has been running without the required number of teaching faculties and non teaching staff.
Ramreichan Keishing stated that “the college has 12 departments, and should have a strength of 84 teaching staff of which only 51 including 8 contractual staff are being posted in the college. The sanction post for non teaching staff is 28 but currently only 3 three staff are employed in the college.”
During the inspection, the lab equipment and others were found to be outdated. The college is located about 8 km away from the main town, the students are facing great difficulties because of the lack of transport service. TKS has appealed to the concerned authority to provide a dedicated transport service and opening of a canteen in the college premise.
The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong have sought an immediate intervention of Governor and Chief Secretary of Manipur and urged to inspect the ongoing construction projects in order to verify the work quality while on their visit to Ukhrul for North East NSS programme to be held at Pettigrew college from 24 September 2025 onward.
