Tensions erupted in Ukhrul district on Sunday evening at around 6:18 PM after suspected Kuki militants launched a fresh coordinated assault on Thawai (Thoyee) and Sharkaphung villages – two Tangkhul Naga villages.
The militants reportedly deployed thermal drones in the area for night-time surveillance and resumed their assaults at around 9:20pm again.
According to ground reports, the village guards at Thoyee have been exercising maximum restraint. However, with the advancing assaults again at 10:00pm, there is an indication of heavy exchange of fire between the village guards and Kuki militants. Villagers informed that the bullets have started hitting their homes, piercing through the windows and walls.
Intermittent heavy firing from the militants’ side was still being reported while filing this report.
The latest incident only adds fuel to the already volatile situation that has rocked and disrupted civilian life since February 2026.
So far, there is no report of human casualty.
