Armed Kuki militants crossed inside the territorial boundaries of Sinakeithei Village on Saturday, a warning shot was fired by the locals stationed at the bunkers to deter the Kuki militants from further encroachment. There was a brief exchange of fire, after which the Kuki militants withdrew.
According to the statement issued by the Media Cell of Sinakeïthei Village Authority, “at around 9:00 AM, a group of armed Kuki militants crossed inside the territorial boundaries of Sinakeithei Village at the Southeastern flanks and crossed the Ihang River. Since they intrude in close proximity to the village, a warming shot was fired by the locals from the lookout bunkers at the southernmost part of Sinakeithei.
“A warning shot was fired to by the locals, who were stationed at the bunker, to deter the militants from further encroachment. The Kuki militants retaliate and there was brief exchange of fire, after which the Kuki militants withdrew.
“There are no Kuki fields in the area and there was no presence of civilians in the time of the incident. With tensions at an all-time high in the region, Sinakeithei have been maintaining a zero-tolerance policy inspite of repeated incursion by Kuki into the territory jurisdiction of Sinakeithei Village. Our village defenders are on high alert and prepared to respond to any perceived threats. Any unauthorized entry by militants or civilians will be met with immediate action from our village defenders. We remain fully committed to protecting every inch of our territory and its integrity” stated the release by the Media Cell of Sinakeïthei Village Authority.
