The Phalee Youth Organisation (PYO) on Friday strongly condemned the incident whereby Themthing Ngashangva (IPS), IGP (Zone -1) was reportedly assaulted and subjected to derogatory remarks while performing his official duty at Govindajee Crossing, Imphal.
The statement issued by Information & Publicity, PYO stated that, “the Phalee Youth Organisation (PYO) strongly condemns the incident of 20th November 2025, during which IGP (Zone-I) Shri Themthing Ngashangva, IPS, was assaulted and subjected to derogatory remarks while performing his official duties at Govindajee Crossing.
“Phalee Youth Organisation expresses deep concern over the actions of individuals who chose to ignore lawful prohibitory orders, resort to violence, and show clear disrespect towards a senior police officer who continued to maintain restraint despite provocation. Such behaviour is unacceptable and undermines the rule of law and the dignity of public servants.
The organisation fully supports the legal proceedings initiated under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and urges the authorities to take firm and impartial action against all those involved in obstructing and assaulting an officer on duty.”
“We further call upon all citizens and organisations to uphold peace, respects lawful authority, and fulfil their fundamental duties in maintaining public order” added the statement.
According to India Today NE, “Manipur Police launched a criminal investigation after a woman protestor allegedly assaulted Inspector General of Police (Zone-I) Themthing Ngashangva and directed racial slurs at him during an unauthorised march linked to opposition against the Sangai Festival 2025.
“According to an official statement, a crowd of 50–60 COCOMI volunteers moved from Govindajee Crossing towards Hapta Kangjeibung around 1:15 pm on November 20, despite prohibitory orders issued by the Imphal East District Magistrate. Officers, including women personnel, repeatedly attempted to block and disperse the group, but the situation escalated as protestors hurled water bottles and placards at police lines. “
