The National Socialist Women’s Organisation of Nagalim (NSWON) has issued a strong condemnation against the rising incidents of violence, exploitation, and discrimination targeting women in Naga society, asserting that despite visible strides in women’s empowerment, male chauvinism continues to manifest in alarming forms.
In a statement issued by Mrs. Hosheli Achumi, Chairperson, NSWON stated that, “In today’s fast developing Naga society where women’s empowerment is not just a by word anymore but a reality, and yet still, male chauvinism gains even more greater height and depict its ugly side in our day-to-day life.
“It is a disturbing phenomenon to often come across incidence of events in which the safety of women is always put at stake and the victims heaped on to fend for themselves against atrocities.
“The male dominated society has become a symbol of, way too much insecurity amongst the womenfolk, where the feminine gender is only viewed from the focal lenses of satiating the opposite gender’s urges or having to go through the unspoken brutality of domestic violence.
“We despise the society of “sati”, where a widow was immolated on her deceased husband’s funeral pyre; “dowry system” still prevalent in the mainland Hindu society; thus, we also loathe a Naga society where a women’s rights and modesty are disregarded and assumed degradable. That, if or as and when, what a male thinks is plausible becomes the genesis of a woman’s suffering, be it molestation, domestic violence or abuses in any form, we condemn such views in its entirety.
“It is even unthinkable that minors are not let alone. It pricks us with excruciating absurdity to even harper such devilish dragnets. Might we remind the male opinionated Naga society that, it is the same very woman who bore us 9 (nine) months and laboriously gave us the birth. And the very fact of that son born into the mother growing up to take every liberty towards the opposite gender is ludicrous.
“The National Socialist Women’s Organisation of Nagalim condemns every such act of men that desecrates the sanctity of a mother-son; sister-brother relationship.
“The National Socialist Women’s Organisation of Nagalim shall and will always stand up for the rights of a woman, its empowerment in the field of academics, economy, politics, spirituality; or revival of culture or into the world of aesthetics, or excellence in the sports arena.
“The National Socialist Women’s Organisation of Nagalim appeals the concerned authorities to diligently perform their duties and swiftly book culprits and to ensure due justice delivered promptly.”
