Naga Students’ Organization, from the Myanmar occupied Nagaland (NSO-M) on Tuesday issued a press release in support of the United Naga Council’s movement for safeguarding the collective interest of the Naga people..
Naogang Ngansa, President of Naga Students’ Organization (Myanmar) stated that, “the Naga Students’ Organization, Myanmar (NSO-M) stands in full solidarity with the United Naga Council (UNC) and expresses our deep respect and appreciation for its bold and principled stand at this critical juncture in our collective journey.
“We commend the UNC for its unwavering commitment to the political future, territorial integrity, and unity of the Naga people. Its leadership, courage, and determination inspire Nagas across all borders—particularly those of us in Eastern Nagaland (Myanmar), who continue to face the brunt of state neglect, militarization, and the effects of unjust border policies.
“We stand firmly with the UNC, and we encourage them to continue their protest movement and every peaceful means of resistance in defense of our people’s rights and future. Their voice is our voice. Their struggle is our struggle.
“As Eastern Nagas, we categorically state that we have never recognized the so-called Free Movement Regime (FMR) instituted by the Indian and Myanmar governments. Our movement across our ancestral lands has always been a birthright, not a matter of state permission. It is rooted in our history, culture, and kinship—long predating the drawing of international borders.
“The recent withdrawal of the FMR came not as a routine policy change, but as a shock—revealing the deeper intent of both governments to divide and control the Naga people. The imposition of movement restrictions and the construction of border fencing through Naga villages and sacred lands are clear attempts to sever our people, erase our unity, and undermine our political aspirations.
“The fencing of our lands—where our ancestors once walked freely—amounts to a cultural and political assault that no Naga, anywhere, should tolerate.”
Therefore, NSO-M:
Strongly condemns the actions of the Government of India, and denounces the silence and complicity of the Government of Myanmar;
Rejects the legitimacy of the FMR regime, past or present, as it falsely assumes control over indigenous lands and identities;
Demands an immediate halt to border fencing, and the reversal of all policies that restrict the free and rightful movement of Naga people across our own land.
NSO-M call upon all Naga organizations, tribal councils, student bodies, and youth movements to rise together in unity and action before it’s too late.
We also appeal to the international community, civil society, and human rights defenders to recognize this blatant violation of indigenous rights, and to stand in support of the Naga people’s just cause for unity, dignity, and self-determination.
Let it be known: we were never divided by consent, and no policy, border, or government can ever rewrite our identity or destiny. Nagalim lives in the heart of every Naga, across every boundary—and no fence can contain that spirit.
