NPF Condemns Ambush And Destruction Of National Highway 202

The Naga People’s Front, Manipur State Unit (NPF-MSU), strongly condemns the reported ambush by suspected Kuki militants near TM Kasom Village along National Highway 202, which resulted in the tragic killing of Nitish Kumar (57) of Hooghly District, West Bengal, an FCI truck driver and injuring Constable Disingam Maringmei, a police personnel in the line of duty, and the reported destruction of a portion of National Highway-202. Such acts of violence not only endanger innocent lives and security personnel but also undermine the rule of law and further destabilize an already fragile situation in the region.

These incidents come at a time when the people are still anxiously awaiting answers regarding the fate of the six Naga brothers who were abducted on 13th of May 2026.

During the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s visit to Makhan Village on 28th May 2026, survivors of the Kuki militant abducted victims shared first hand accounts of the abduction. The Chief Minister, along with the Naga MLA representatives accompanying him, was reportedly shocked and surprised by the testimonies, which differed significantly from the information that had earlier reached the Government through high ranking police and security official. This raises serious concerns regarding the effectiveness of ground-level investigation, intelligence gathering, and reporting.

The testimonies heard during the Chief Minister’s visit give rise to a fundamental question: Why did it require the personal intervention of the Hon’ble Chief Minister for these facts to come to light? Where were the police, security forces, and intelligence agencies before the visit to Makhan Village? If survivors and eyewitnesses were available to narrate their accounts, why were these crucial leads not identified, verified, and acted upon earlier?

According to the testimonies of those who survived the incident, the six Naga brothers were last seen after being detained at Leilon Vaiphei by the women folk before allegedly being handed over to armed Kuki militants. Were all relevant witnesses questioned? Were statements properly recorded? Were all available leads pursued?

Despite the deployment of State police and Security forces and assurances from the authorities, there has been no visible breakthrough in establishing the whereabouts of the six Naga brothers.

Equally alarming is the reported digging up of National Highway-202 using JCB excavators by Kuki elements raises serious concerns regarding security oversight. Such an operation requires time, manpower, and heavy equipment. If security forces were stationed nearby, as reported, how was this allowed to happen? The people deserve to know why no effective action was taken to prevent the destruction of a crucial highway connecting communities and facilitating the movement of essential goods and services.

The Naga people have exercised patience and restraint throughout this difficult period. However, patience should not be mistaken for acceptance of inaction. The continued absence of answers only deepens public concern and weakens confidence in the institutions entrusted with maintaining law and order.

NPF-MSU therefore demands:

1. An immediate and transparent status report on the six Naga brothers.

2. A thorough inquiry into any lapses in investigation, intelligence gathering, and official reporting.

3. Swift identification and prosecution of all those responsible for abduction, violence, attacks on civilians and security personnel, and destruction of public infrastructure.

3. Stronger security measures to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of all communities.

4. Accountability from all agencies entrusted with maintaining law and order.

“NPF-MSU stands firmly with the families of the six Naga brothers and with every citizen seeking truth and justice. We shall continue to pursue this matter through all democratic means until the truth is revealed” stated Awangbow Newmai, President NPF, Manipur State Unit.
