NH-202 CONTINUES TO BLEED – Kuki Armed Terrorists Attack Assam Rifles at Lungshang Kong

Khanuithot-Khon strongly condemns today’s Kuki terrorist attack on Assam Rifles personnel near Lungshang Kong, which occurred at approximately 2:00 PM. Based on the established pattern of violence in the region, we firmly believe this ambush was carried out by Kuki terrorist groups operating along NH-202. Such acts of terror have absolutely no place in a region that has already endured immense suffering and protracted insecurity.

We are deeply concerned that this brazen incident occurs at a critical juncture, precisely when security forces are actively pursuing those responsible for the recent abduction and brutal killing of six Naga civilians. It is our firm conviction that today’s ambush was deliberately orchestrated to divert the attention of Central Security Forces away from apprehending the perpetrators of that heinous crime, thereby obstructing the course of justice and creating fresh instability across the district.

This is not an isolated incident. The NH-202 corridor has become a bleeding ground, witnessing repeated acts of violence, including the tragic killing of three civilians along the same route in earlier incidents. The prolonged failure to take decisive action against these elements has only emboldened Kuki terrorist groups, culminating in increasingly brazen, broad-daylight attacks on our security forces. Khanuithot-Khon views these persistent acts of terrorism as a grave and immediate threat to the peace, security, and stability of Ukhrul District.

Consequently, we appeal to the Assam Rifles, the Central Security Forces, and the State Government to launch immediate, decisive, and combing operations against Kuki terrorist groups operating in and around the Litan and Yaolen areas. In our assessment, these are the same elements responsible for the repeated onslaughts along NH-202. Furthermore, the Government of India must urgently re-examine the validity of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) arrangement. As the groups under this SoO pact are frequently breaking the rules, the ceasefire must be reviewed; no peace framework should ever serve as a shield for those waging armed attacks against civilians or security forces.

Justice must be swift, impartial, and unwavering. The perpetrators behind the murder of the six Naga civilians, the historic killings along NH-202, and today’s ambush on the Assam Rifles must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Only through firm, unyielding action and absolute accountability can lasting peace and stability be restored to the region.
