The incident that took place on 26 June 2025 at Mongkot Chepu, whereby some Kuki villagers have reportedly assaulted Ukhrul-bound winger driver and its passengers has been resolved peacefully at today’s meeting held at Litan Police Station.

The most significant undertaking was, “the Chief of Mongkot Chepu agreed to adhere to and honor the culture, custom and tradition of the land owner (Tangkhul Naga).”

An undertaking was executed in the presence of both the parties at Litan Police Station. Tangkhul leaders represented on behalf of the victims and the Kuki Village Chiefs of Litan area representing on behalf of the perpetrators.

Both the parties strongly condemned the incident and those individuals who were involved in the brutal assault. The action of L. Lunminjoy s/o L. Ngamjang, Ngamminlun s/o Lt. Lhunsei and L. Lunhao s/o L. Ngamlal was barbaric and has disturbed the peaceful environment.

The following points were agreed to abide in order to ensure safety while travelling on the Imphal-Ukhrul road and for maintaining cordial relations of both the community:

1. In case of any repetition in future within the jurisdiction of Mongkot Chepu such as harassment, assault or creating public nuisance to the travelers, it would be dealt with severity, and further no terms of negotiation for compromised.

2. The Chief of Mongkot Chepu agreed to adhere to and honor the culture, custom and tradition of the land owner (Tangkhul Naga).

3. The Chief of Mongkot Chepu should produce the details of its household and village census within 48th hours to TNL (Tangkhul Naga Long).

4. A sum of Rs. 5,00,000/- (Five lakhs only) as a compensation to the victim party within 3 days of this agreement i.e 1 July 2025.

General Secretary of UDTWA informed that the suspended public transport service will resume along Ukhrul-Imphal road with the coming of this agreement
