Mmhonlumo Kikon, former Minister and 2 times MLA of 40 Bhandari Assembly Constituency in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly has been recently appointed as the General Secretary (Political) of the National People’s Party.
In an appointment notification, signed by NPP National President, Conrad Sangma, Chief Minster of Meghalaya..
Mmhonlumo Kikon, in the middle of 2025, he resigned from BJP as National Spokesperson and Primary Membership citing re-calibration of his Political Journey, and the need to explore new avenues of public engagement and policy work, allowing to continue contributing to society in different ways.
The notification reads, ‘in exercise of the powers vested in the National President under Article 11 of the Constitution of the National People’s Party, and in furtherance of the objectives, principles, and organisational mandate of the Party, Shri Mmhonlumo Kikon is hereby appointed as General Secretary (Political) with immediate effect.”
Moreover, Mmhonlumo Kikon is also entrusted with the following responsibilities:
1. To continue structured coordination and dialogue with various political parties and stakeholders across the Northeastern States for strategic alignment and consultations towards the realisation of the vision of “One Northeast.”
2. To coordinate with all State Presidents and Office Bearers across the States to review political developments, electoral preparedness, and inter-state organisational matters.
3. To hold regular consultations with all elected Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies, and other elected representatives of the Party to ensure policy coherence and political coordination.
4. To design and supervise dedicated political programmes, consultations, conventions, and outreach initiatives aimed at enhancing the presence and reach of the Party. All State Units and Party Functionaries are hereby directed to extend full cooperation.
