A one-day awareness programme on “MENO MIND: Menopause and Mental Health Care” was successfully organized on Friday, the 23rd January 2026, at the Amazing Grace Mission School Meeting Hall, Wanglee Market, Kamjong District, Manipur
The programme was jointly organized by the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) and Amazing Grace Mission School, Wanglee.
The event aims to raise awareness about the mental and physical problems faced by women after menopause and their overall well-being.
The programme was graced by Th. Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson, Manipur State Commission for Women, along with Sk. Sophia Moyon, Member, MSCW; Tuithung Ngamreichan, Proprietor, Amazing Grace Mission School, and Tuithung Wungnaoyo, Chairman, Wanglee Market, as presidium members. More than 150 women and girls participated in the programme.
The programme began with a welcome and introductory address by Sk. Sophia Moyon, member of MSCW, highlighted the importance of the awareness programmes in empowering women with the right information on health and mental well-being. She further stated that mental health issues related to menopause often remain unaddressed due to social stigma and lack of awareness.
Speaking on the occasion, Th. Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson, MSCW, highlighted the Commission’s initiatives to address issues faced by women in the state, with a focus on empowerment, the protection of rights, and overall well-being. She further highlighted the need to openly discuss menopause and mental health, which are often neglected or misunderstood in society. She stressed that menopause is a natural phase in a woman’s life, and proper awareness, timely medical support, and mental health care can significantly improve the quality of life of women, particularly in rural and remote areas.
During the event, Tuithung Wungnaoyo, Chairman of Wanglee Market, expressed gratitude to the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) for taking the initiative to organize such an important awareness programme in a remote border area. He highlighted that Wanglee is located along the Indo–Myanmar border, far from the state capital. People often face challenges accessing government facilities and services. These outreach programmes are highly meaningful and beneficial to the local community. He further expressed his desired to organise additional programmes to bring the community’s concerns to the attention of the Government.
Tuithung Ngamreichan, the Proprietor of Amazing Grace Mission School, in his speech, mentioned that Wanglee Market is located in a remote border region, and the community often lacks access to awareness and reliable information, mainly due to poor network connectivity, inadequate road transportation, limited healthcare facilities, restricted access to education, and minimal outreach services. Many families also struggle to secure sufficient food for their daily needs. He further added that programmes like this play an important role in empowering local women and girls with knowledge on menstrual hygiene, menopause, and related women’s health issues. He further noted that such programmes will reduce stigma, myths and promote a more holistic approach to women’s health care among the community.
The technical session featured expert talks by Tuithung Worso, Psycho-Social Counsellor, One Stop Centre, Kamjong, on Women Mental Health Support; T. Chuongsin Koireng, Ex-Member, MSCW, on Menopause and Mental Health; Dr. P.S. Leishiwon, Chief Medical Officer, Kamjong, on Women and Health; and A.S.
