Declaration of 31st July 1995 at Medziphema Town

We, the undersigned G.B’s/Chairman and leaders of Kuki community living in Chakhro Angami area hereby made the following declaration at our own volition;

1. That the present established 6 (six) Kuki’s villages and those living in Medziphema Town were permitted by the following Chakhro Angami’s villages,

a) Melvom village by Medziphema village

b) Bungsang village by Ruzaphema village

c) Sirhi (Kuki) by Chakhro Public Organisation

d) Phaipijang village by Chumukedima village

e) Khaibung village by New Socunoma village

f) Maova village by Tsuuma village

g) Medziphema Town by Medziphema village.

2. That in recognition of land ownership, we shall continue to give the token rent annually to the respective village land owners as per the Angami-Naga Customary Law and shall not disposed/sale the land now under our occupation without the consent of the land owners.

3. That we solemnly pledge to respect and uphold the decisions of the land owners/Chakhro Public Organisation and shall not go against the wishes of the Chakhro Angami’s, be it political or social. And in the event of any disputes or conflict within any aforesaid Kuki villages or in matter of land holdings, the Angami-Naga Customary Law small prevail. Moreover, in due course of time, if situation demands, the land owners are at liberty to change the name of our village (s).

4. Thut no fresh Kuki’s community from other region will be allowed to settle in the aforesaid Kuki villages. And to upheld this declaration any committee authorised by Chakhro Public Organisation can check the new-comers.

5. That we selemnly tender our sincere apology to the Angami’s in particular and the Nagas in general for the mistakes commi-tted in the past. In future, we shall not indulge/involve in any anti-Angami or anti-Naga activities. Further, we shall have no links or collaboration with Kuki’s of other States.

6. That in the event of failure to abide by the above stated declarations by any Kuki individual, group or villages, the violators shall be expelled from the area in the interest of peace and transquility and to avoid any misunderstanding.

Accordingly, we signed this declaration on this 31st day of July 1995 at Medziphema Town.
