99 years old, AS. Arthur from Shangshak Phunghon, a veteran politician, who played a significant role in Manipur politics during the 1980s and 1990s passed away at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Delhi on Saturday at around 4:40 AM.
AS. Arthur took voluntary retirement as Special Secretary, Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 1984 to join politics in Manipur. The 99 years old veteran politician who was first elected as MLA from 44-Ukhrul Assembly Constituency (1984-1989) was the Minister for Forest and Environment and General Administration (1994-1997)
AS. Arthur hailed from Shangshak Phunghon village in the Ukhrul district. He was the father of Alfred Kan-Ngam Arthur, who is the current Member of Parliament (MP) for the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency.
The Tangkhul Katamnao Long Delhi informed that they will be organising a condolence service for the departed leader at Delhi on Saturday at Dwaar Centre Safdarjung at 07:00PM.
