ANSAM Condemns Selective Target By The Office of MP & Maharaja of Manipur

The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) had registered its strong objection on the recent report submitted to the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur against one of the top police officers Themthing Ngashangva (IPS), by the office of the Hon’ble MP (Rajya Sabha), Manipur, vide Memory No.MP (R/S) -427, dated 20/11/2025, who was carrying out his responsibilities diligently during such challenging and a volatile situation.

The statement issued by Information and Publicity of All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur stated that, “this selective target to the Naga officer by the office of the Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and the Maharaja of Manipur whom we considered as the symbol of Meiteis community is shocking and highly uncalled for. The association views this as an unjust act against the respected officer who was dutifully performing his assigned responsibilities under the state authority.

Mention may be made that the officer was doing his duty along with their team assigned by the authority to control and ensure the public order and there was no record of any actions or exchange of words between the Maharaja and the officer in any manner.

It is deeply disheartening that an officer, who was carrying out his professional obligations has been subjected to personal attack and undue accusation. Further, it is unfortunate to see the simmering communal feelings trending in the Social Medias being triggered by the very act and move of Maharaja’s Office has put the harmony and peaceful coexistence in question.

ANSAM seriously viewed the unfolding act as a deliberate insult not only to the officer himself but to the entire Naga community. The community feels collectively wounded and aggrieved. The Association is equally alarmed by the surge of communal, racially-charged and mischievously sensational content spreading across social media platforms, attempting to weaponize public sentiment and inflame existing tensions. These vicious posts, drenched in prejudice and manufactured outrage, represent a clear danger to the peace of Manipur. They are crafted not to illuminate truth, but to fracture communities, distort reality, and instigate a spiral of hostility at the time when the State demands calm judgement and collective maturity.

The association will always stand for the rights of every individual and shall not allow the act of defamation and denigration come what may. In this fragile moment in Manipur’s society, ANSAM urges the concerned parties especially Maharaja to personally intervene and withdraw the complaint immediately to prevent further escalation. If the complainant parties have genuine concerns and grievances, they have every right to take the matter to the state authority but not targeting an officer from other community to meet their ends.
