Tamenglong district in Manipur, which serves as a crucial, year-round roosting site for thousands of migratory Amur falcons (local name Akhuaipuina/Tamuanpui) during their journey from Siberia to Southern Africa, typically between October and November started arriving in Guangram Village today in Tamenglong District.
The Tamenglong Forest Division along with many NGO, village authorities, youth club of Tamenglong District since 2015 had been constantly carrying out protection of this migratory birds. Tamenglong is in the international map for conserving this long distance migratory birds.
This year also Forest Department, Manipur in collaboration with the Wildlife Institute of India is going to tag three more Amur falcons bird with satellite transmitters to continue the ongoing research works.
Like the past years the district administration and local communities will be active in protecting the falcons, issuing bans on hunting and trapping, and working to raise awareness about the birds’ significance.
As per the officials from the forest department of Tamenglong the successful conservation of the Amur falcons in Tamenglong highlights the potential for harmony between humans and nature.
