The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) expresses grave concern over the killings, continuing attacks, armed firing, destruction of properties and burning of houses in Naga villages along the Imphal-Tamenglong (IT) Road, and other Naga villages across the state.
Even on 21 September 2026, the International Day of Peace, its principles of peace and non-violence were tragically violated by the brutal killing of NK Wiphenbou, a young Class XI student by Kuki armed terrorists.
The union is deeply concerned that the concentration and heavy engagement in armed activities of Kuki terrorist groups in the area, creating an increasingly dangerous environment for civilians, who are facing the immediate consequences of the violence. The multiple attacks and ambush by armed Kuki groups, while Naga villagers have been compelled to protect their homes and communities from immediate threat.
More than dozen innocent peoples have brutally killed from this range. The heavy concentration of Kuki narco terrorists in the region and frequency of attacks, ambushes, burning of houses that causes displacement should be checked at the highest level.
NWU makes it unequivocally clear that our calling distress attention to the Government is not a sign of weakness. When civilians are under attack, seeking protection from the State is a legitimate and responsible democratic action. The Naga Women’s Union believes that the Government has a responsibility to protect civilians and to prevent armed groups from threatening the lives and security of the people.
The Naga Women’s Union therefore urges the Government to act immediately to protect civilians, in IT road area and prevent further attacks and displacement. It further, investigate all reported incidents impartially and ensure that the IT Road does not become a continuing zone of insecurity. NWU appeals for decisive State intervention not to escalate the conflict, and to prevent further bloodshed and create the necessary conditions for the safety of lives.
