Due to the prevailing situation and inaccessibility of the road, the villagers from the Western part of Ukhrul District have appealed to the Government of Manipur for construction of Bailey Bridge along Kongsui Kong (Ringui Junction) a tributary of Thoubal River.
A joint team led by Wungmaten A Shimray, Headman of Ringui Village along with neighbouring village elders visited the Kongsui Kong at Ringui on Saturday.
Speaking to the media person, Wungmaten A Shimray stated that ‘the Construction of Bailey Bridge at Kongsui Kong (Ringui Junction) would reduce the distance and consequently the traveling time and provide easy access to the villages situated at the Western part of Ukhrul District to Imphal, Kamjong, Ukhrul Headquarters and Tadubi. The said location is about 5km from Ringui Village.”
Social Activist Yangsing Raleng stated that “the Ringui Junction is located at the Imphal-Ukhrul old road, we appeal to the Government of Manipur to construct a bailey bridge. The road is in a motorable condition but due to the absence of a bridge along the river, commuters cannot travel the moment it rains. So we ended up taking the longer road. During the dry season, the journey to Imphal takes just two hours but due to the absence of a bridge we ended up travelling for more than five hours or more during the rainy season.
“Because of the prevailing Naga-Kuki conflict, the villages under LM Block are not safe to travel through Mahadev-Taloi Road. This is the only safer and alternative road for the area. On behalf of the area, we humbly request the Government under the leadership of CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh to kindly look into the grievances of the people and build the bailey bridge at the earliest” stated Yangsing Raleng.
Yangsing Raleng further added that “the Mahadev-Taloi road was properly maintained by the Government and was fully accessible. But with the outbreak of Naga-Kuki conflict in 2026, the villagers from LM Block are not safe to travel the said road. During the dry season, we have been travelling on this road, but with the onset of monsoon, the water level of the river has rapidly risen and we are compelled to take a longer route. The construction of Bailey Bridge will shorten our travel and ease the commuters and will be a boon for the people of LM Block.”
The people from the area have also appealed to the concerned MLA Khashim Vashum to apprise the Government for fulfilling the aspirations of the people.
