The Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur, expresses its strongest and unequivocal condemnation of the alleged arson attack perpetrated at approximately 9:30 PM on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, at Tokpa Naga Village, Champhai, Kangpokpi District, Manipur.

The press release issued by the Liangmai Naga Council Manipur stated that “multiple Kuki Narco-terrorists allegedly entered the village and set ablaze approximately 10 houses and a Church. The alleged deliberate targeting of innocent civilians, residential properties and a place of worship constitutes a grave and reprehensible act of violence. Such wanton destruction poses a serious threat to the lives, security and dignity of the civilian population and must not be allowed to become another instance of impunity and lawlessness.

“The Council is particularly appalled and deeply concerned by reports that security personnel were stationed merely a few metres from the affected area, despite the locality being a highly sensitive red-zone area. The apparent failure to prevent, deter or intervene in the alleged attack raises serious and legitimate questions regarding operational preparedness, negligence and accountability.”

The Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur, therefore demands:

1. Immediate apprehension and prosecution of all persons responsible for the alleged arson.

2. A swift, impartial, transparent and time-bound investigation into the incident.

3. A thorough inquiry into the conduct and possible dereliction of duty of security personnel present in the vicinity.

4. Immediate strengthening of security to safeguard the lives and properties of the affected civilians.

5. Adequate relief, rehabilitation and compensation for the families whose homes and properties have been destroyed.

Further, the Council urges the Government and concerned security authorities to act with urgency, impartiality and constitutional responsibility. The destruction of civilian homes and a place of worship cannot be met with silence, indifference or administrative inaction. The Council strongly warns that continued aggression against smaller tribal communities is sheer cowardice and must cease forthwith. Our patience is wearing thin; any further provocation will invite serious consequences, and those responsible shall be held accountable. Those responsible must be brought to justice without delay, and accountability must prevail over impunity. The safety, dignity and fundamental rights of innocent civilians must be upheld at all costs.
