In a drastic move, the Nagas of Senapati District have resolved to restrict the movement of the Kukis within Senapati District as a collective form of protest against the incident that took place on 4 August 2026 at Gamgiphai Gate, where the representatives of the NPO, SDWA, SDSA and the Supervisory Committee were denied passage at Gamgiphai Gate by Kuki volunteers.
The press release stated that “a joint meeting of the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), Tribe Hoho, Senapati District Women’s Association (SDWA), and Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) was held on 08 August 2026 at the NPO Conference Hall, Senapati, particularly to deliberate on the incident that took place at Gamgiphai Gate on 04 August 2026.
“The meeting took serious note of the incident in which representatives of the NPO, SDWA, SDSA and the Supervisory Committee were denied passage at Gamgiphai Gate by Kuki volunteers, despite repeatedly identifying themselves and explaining the purpose of their movement.
“After due deliberation, the house expressed serious concern over the incident and resolved that, with immediate effect and until further notice, the Naga people of Senapati District shall restrict the movement of Kuki people within Senapati District as a collective form of protest against the incident.
“The organisations further call upon the concerned authorities to take cognisance of the incident at Gamgiphai Gate and ensure that the rights, safety and dignity of the Naga people are respected so that such incidents do not recur” added the joint statement issued under the name of Naga People’s Organisation (NPO).
