The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) takes serious exception of the combing operation conducted by the combined team of Police, Assam Rifles, Punjab Regiment, Madras Regiment and Bihar Regiment in certain Tangkhul Naga villages namely TM Kasom, Sharkaphung and Lungphu, and resorting to rampant arrest of four (4) innocent villagers of Sharkaphung Village on the 14th of July 2026.

The press release of TNL WC stated that “the illegal arrest of four innocent civilians of Sharkaphung (Sikibung) village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Kamjong District, have been identified as :-

(1) Mr. Wungphayo Kasar. (24) s/o Yurthan Kasar

(2) Mr. A.S. Ninglum (29) s/o AS Hopeson

(3) Mr. Yaoreingam Lungleng (24) s/o Makanmi Lungleng, and

(4) Mr. Vareiyo Lungleng (56) s/o Tuifa Lungleng.

“The villagers were whisked away between 8-9am by the security forces and their whereabouts are still unknown till the release of this official communiqué.

“The Tangkhul community is totally exasperated over the conduct of the security forces launching operation against the oppressed villages including TM Kasom and Sharkaphung, which has been under an aggressive attack from the Kuki militants under SoO pact and Kuki narco-terrorist groups since the outbreak of violent conflict in Ukhrul District on the 7th of February 2026. Whereas, the Kuki villages- the epicentres of triggering violence in Ukhrul and Kamjong, has remained untouched by the security forces till date.

“In view of the developing circumstances, the Working Committee of TNL warns that the excesses committed by the security forces could unfold serious ramifications and further worsen the situation beyond control. That, the arrested four innocent villagers of Sharkaphung should be released within 24 hours, and failure to do so, will invite serious civil unrest against the State government” stated the press release issued by the Media Cell, Working Committee, TNL.

Sources informed that the four civilians from Sharkaphung Village have been handed over to the Porompat Police Station, Imphal East District.
