The Village Volunteer Ukhrul Gamkai on 19 May 2026 issued a statement warning the passenger chopper flying from Ukhrul to Imphal not to fly through the airspace of kUki-Zo village again or be shot down.

Warning against unauthorized airspace intrusion, the VV Ukhrul Gamkai statement reads “if it is flown through the airspace of Kuki-Zo villages again, it will be shot down too.”

“A drone was spotted hovering over the farming area under the jurisdiction of Mongkot Chepu on 18 May 26 and over the residential area of Mongkot Chepu on 19 May 26. Upon observation, the source of the unauthorised drone was identified as Sikibung/Sharkaphung village. If any unauthorised drone is spotted again anywhere within the jurisdiction of any Kuki-Zo village, it will be shot down, and the village from which the drone originates will be deemed responsible for inviting retaliatory action.”

“Furthermore, the passenger chopper flying from Ukhrul to Imphal has often been observed flying at an extremely low altitude in a manner perceived as provocative. Therefore, Kuki-Zo village volunteers advise that the chopper use the airspace of Tangkhul villages. If it is flown through the airspace of Kuki-Zo villages again, it will be shot down too” stated the statement issued by the Media Cell-VV Ukhrul Gamkai.
