Sinakeithei PHC Without Doctors & Nurses; Appeals For Early Completion Of Sinakeithei -Sirarakhong Road

The Government of Manipur on 19 November, 2024 had decided to upgrade the Sinakeithei Public Health Sub-Centre among others to the Public Health Centre. It was done so with the intention “to fill up the gaps in the number of health centres in a phase wise manner to improve the quality of health services” according to the Proceedings of the Minutes of Meeting held on 19th November, 2024 under the Chairmanship of Special Secretary (H&FW) at the NHM Conference Hall,The Directorate of Health Services, Manipur to Discuss on The New Establishment and Up-Gradation of Health Centres in Different Districts of Manipur.

However, Sinakeithei PHC remains in name with no attending medical staff. Wunganing Zimik, the Secretary of Sinakeithei Village Authority stated that “even though, the Sinakeithei PHSC was upgraded to Public Health Centre in 2024, there is no nurse or doctor to attend to the people in need of medical care and the PHC remains defunct even to this day. Therefore, we would be very grateful if the government could look into this and at the earliest, provide doctors and nurses to attend to the people. This would resolve one of the major grievances faced by us.”

“Ministers, MLAs and DCs have visited Sinakeithei, they have come and gone. They have patiently heard our grievances but nothing positive has come till date” added Wunganing Zimik.

The villagers also appealed to the Government of Manipur to construct the bailey bridge at Rungsu Kong at Sirarakhong at the earliest. This road will connect Sinakeithei to the rest of the world. Because of the ongoing conflict, the villagers are unable to travel to the Sinakeithei -Mahadev-Imphal road.

The State Government assurances of providing security along Sinakeithei – Mahadev- Imphal is not feasible at this juncture because the villagers will be crossing multiple Kuki villages along the stretch of road. Moreover, the villagers have also expressed reservation because of the continuous attack by Kuki militants along the National Highway 20 to civilians and police.

The construction of Sinakeithei to Sirarakhong Road is of utmost importance for the villagers of Sinakeithei. “Monsoon is approaching soon, we appeal to the concerned authority to do the needful in the greater interest of the villagers” added Wunganing Zimik.
