Asufii Christian Institute Conferred Autonomous Status By UGC

Asufii Christian Institute celebrated a historic and memorable milestone with immense joy and pride on the occasion of the conferment of Autonomous Status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) on 9th May 2026. The grand celebration witnessed the gathering of distinguished dignitaries, community leaders, alumni, parents, faculty members, staff, students, and well-wishers, marking a significant chapter in the history and growth of the institution.

The programme was graced by Armstrong Pame (IAS), Joint Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Higher Education, as the Chief Guest, and Brigadier Anshuman Tripathi, DIG, 22 Sector Assam Rifles as the Guest of Honour. The event commenced with an invocation prayer led by Rev. A. Pfokrelo, seeking God’s blessings upon the institution and the gathering.

Chief Guest Armstrong Pame, (IAS), congratulated the institution on attaining autonomous status and appreciated the remarkable progress made by ACI in the field of higher education. He encouraged the institution to utilise autonomy as an opportunity to promote academic innovation, research, quality education, and the holistic development of students. Reflecting on his own life journey, he emphasised the crucial role of parents in shaping the future and success of their children and urged students to remain disciplined, focused, and determined in their academic pursuits.

Guest of Honour Brigadier Anshuman Tripathi lauded the institution for nurturing young minds and emphasised the importance of discipline, integrity, and commitment in building responsible citizens and future leaders.

The Principal of ACI Dr. Daili Neli delivered the welcome address and described the conferment of autonomous status as a defining moment in the institution’s journey and the beginning of a new era marked by academic excellence, innovation, accountability, and greater responsibility. The Principal reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to providing quality higher education rooted in values, integrity, and service to society.

A special message titled “ACI, Thus Far” from Dr. L. Dikho, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur and Founder and Chairman of ACI, was delivered by his Personal Assistant and PRO of the college, Kaisii Arche. The message reflected on the vision, struggles, sacrifices, and achievements of the institution since its inception and encouraged the ACI community to continue striving for excellence, integrity, and meaningful contribution to society through education.

The celebration was further enriched by colourful cultural performances presented by ACI and ACS students, showcasing the rich heritage, talent, creativity, and vibrant spirit of the student community. The programme was also attended by Shri Athikho Joseph, President of Mao Council, along with representatives of various organisations, village and church leaders, women’s organisations, youth and student leaders, alumni, parents, and distinguished invitees from different walks of life.

Special tribute was also paid to the former Principals Rev. Loli Kape and Dr. P. Wungnaongam for their invaluable contributions in laying a strong academic foundation for the institution.

The celebration reflected the collective aspirations, unity and pride of the community and reaffirmed ACI’s commitment to becoming a centre of excellence in higher education. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Registrar of ACI, Kaini Lokho followed by the benediction pronounced by the Chaplain of ACI, S.K. Abraham.
