The Central Working Committee of Tangkhul Naga Foothills’ Association (TNFO) has appealed to the Central Security Forces and State Government to take note of the serious violation committed by Kuki armed groups under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) Agreement and to issue strict warnings to all the Kuki armed groups under SoO to refrain from further provocation.
In a press release, the Media/ Information & Publicity, CWC, TNFO, stated that “the claims made in the statement issued by the Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul, Ref. No. WC/PR17/04/26 on 6/04/26 are misleading, selective, and do not reflect the ground reality.
“The joint combing operations carried out by Central and State forces were conducted peacefully and professionally. There was no obstruction or resistance from local villagers, including women. The allegation that villages opposed or hindered security forces is baseless and intended to create a false narrative.
“On the occasion of Easter Sunday, Tangkhul villages were peacefully engaged in religious observance. There was no provocation or hostile action from the Tangkhul side. The firing incidents reported since day one in Thoyee (Thawai), Sharkaphung, Leingangching, and Litan till tonight were initiated by Kuki militants operating under the SoO (Suspension of Operations) agreement. These actions clearly violate the spirit and terms of the SOO.
“That Kuki militant groups even resorted to firing explosive devices, including bombs, towards Litan and Sharkaphung. Such acts are not only provocative but also endanger civilian lives and escalate tensions unnecessarily.
“The attempt to portray themselves as victims while distorting facts and presenting selective “evidence” is deeply concerning. Misleading the media and the public appears to be a deliberate strategy to deflect accountability and justify unlawful actions.”
The Central Working Committee of TNFO has appealed that the Central Forces and State Government must take serious note of these violations. There is an urgent need to:
1. Issue strict warnings to all militant groups under SoO to refrain from further provocation
2. Ensure strict adherence to SoO ground rules.
3. Take firm and immediate action against any group or individual found violating these agreements
“Peace cannot be achieved through misinformation and aggression. Any attempt to instigate violence under the cover of false narratives must be dealt with firmly. If such instigations persist, the responsibility for any outcome will lie squarely with the Central and State Governments for failing to act decisively” added the statement issued by Media/ Information & Publicity CWC, TNFO.
