The Tangkhul Naga Long and Thawai Village Authority have strongly questioned the inaction of Security Forces stationed at the Thawai (Thoyee) and Sharkaphung area. Suspected Kuki militants had launched a coordinated attack on Thawai (Thoyee) and Sharkaphung villages on Sunday inspite of heavy presence of security forces in the area.

Thawai Village Authority has called upon the Government to take urgent and impartial measures to guarantee the security of the villagers, conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident, and ensure that justice is delivered without bias or delay.

The Thawai Village Authority has strongly condemned the indiscriminate firing launched by suspected Kuki militants from the Shangkai and Zalenbung areas targeting Thawai Village on a peaceful evening of Easter Sunday on 5th April 2026.The attack, involving the use of automatic weapons, occurred between approximately 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. and resulted in multiple bullets striking residential homes, some penetrating the houses through windows.

The Village Authority expresses grave concern over the circumstances surrounding this attack, particularly in light of the advance operations reportedly conducted by central security forces in the area just a day prior. These developments have raised serious questions regarding the effectiveness and intent of such operations. The apparent absence or inaction of security personnel during the attack warrants immediate clarification.

“In view of the above, the Thawai Village Authority strongly condemns both the alleged actions of the armed militants and the failure of the concerned security apparatus to ensure the safety and protection of civilians. We call upon the Government to take urgent and impartial measures to guarantee the security of the villagers, conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident, and ensure that justice is delivered without bias or delay” stated the statement issued by Thawai Village Authority.

The Tangkhul Naga Long has warned that Kukis should not poke their nose in matters that does not concern them. In a press communique issued by the Media Cell Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long have taken note of the press release issued by the Kuki CSOs Working Committee, Ukhrul, dated 05 April 2026, and wish to express serious concern over the assertions made therein regarding the sermon by Rev. Ramyothing Phungshok and recent incidents of violence at Thoyee and Sharkaphung.

“While any form of hate speech, provocation, or targeting of civilians must be condemned unequivocally, it is equally important that narratives surrounding such incidents are grounded in verified facts and not presented in a selective or one-sided manner. The sermon of Rev. Ramyothing Phungshok was made with context to the erstwhile situation in Ukhrul and the Kukis should not poke their nose in matters that does not concern them nor take things out of context and blow them out of proportions” stated the statement issued by the Media Cell, Working Committee of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL).

The Media Cell, Working Committee of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) also stated that”it is also extremely paradoxical that in the same statement where the Kuki CSOs Working Committee speaks about peaceful coexistence, they spew repugnant lies about the gunfire that has been ongoing in Thoyee and Sharkaphung since yesterday evening. It must be stated clearly that it was Kuki militants who fired towards civilian houses at Thoyee and Sharkaphung after 6 PM yesterday, April 5 2026. The firing continued incessantly throughout the night without any meaningful intervention by the security forces to stop the firing. It must also be stated herein that there were no retaliation whatsoever from the villagers yesterday despite coming

under heavy fire. As many as six houses at Thoyee were hit by the bullets of Kuki militants last night.

“Equally alarming is the use of thermal drones by Kuki militant groups during this attack. The deployment of such advanced and targeted surveillance and attack methods marks a dangerous escalation and further endangers the already vulnerable civilian populations. The targeting of innocent lives cannot be justified under any circumstances.

“It is deeply troubling that despite these repeated and escalating incidents, the State and the Central government continues to remain a passive observer. The lack of decisive intervention, accountability and protection for affected civilians raises serious questions about the commitment to safeguarding citizens and maintaining order. We call upon the authorities to act immediately and decisively to ensure the safety of civilians and to take concrete steps toward restoring peace and security. The people of Thoyee and Sharkaphung deserve protection, justice and an end to this cycle of violence from illegal Kuki militants” stated the Media Cell Working Committee of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL).
