Kuki CSO Working Committee Ukhrul Welcomes Action Taken By Security Forces

Better Late Than Never, the Kuki CSO Working Committee Ukhrul expressed sincere appreciation on the ongoing combined combing operations carried out by the 8 Bihar Regiment, Ukhrul Police, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

The statement issued by the Department of Information and Media, WCKCSOs-Ukhrul stated that, “the decision to simultaneously dismantle bunkers on both sides was a wise and necessary step, especially considering that some of these bunkers posed a direct threat to innocent civilians, including school children.”

“For nearly two months, Kuki Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have consistently highlighted the dangers posed by bunkers established by Tangkhul militants. Unfortunately, these concerns appeared to go unheard. It is deeply regrettable that it took casualties and the destruction of several residential houses-including a school in Mongkot Chepu-for decisive action to be taken.

“Nonetheless, we acknowledge this intervention. It is reassuring that on 25th March 2026, the region experienced a day without further firing, offering temporary relief to affected communities.

“However, the threat is far from over. We wish to draw the urgent attention of the concerned authorities to the fortified bunkers reportedly constructed by Tangkhul militants along the Thoubal riverbank, spanning from Thoyee-Mahadev to Mongneljang.

“We strongly urge that the ongoing operations continue with sustained momentum to fully disarm armed militants and dismantle all such bunkers in the identified areas. This is essential to ensure a lasting sense of security for Kuki villages as well as for commuters along the Ukhrul National Highway.

“We remain hopeful that with sustained and impartial efforts, peace, security, and mutual trust can be fully restored in the region for the benefit of all communities” added the statement issued by the Department of Information and Media, WCKCSOs-Ukhrul.
