TKS Serves 24 Hours Ultimatum To State Government For Opening The National Highway 202

The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong – the apex student body of Tangkhul Naga community on Wednesday has served an ultimatum of 24 hours to the State Government to immediately provide a clear, credible, and unequivocal assurance of public safety for all travelers along the NH-202 Imphal-Ukhrul Road.

In a press release, the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) expresses its strong resentment and deep dissatisfaction over the continued disturbance and blocking of the NH-202 Imphal-Ukhrul Road. Such an act is completely unacceptable and is viewed as a direct challenge to the entire community whose survival and daily life depend on this vital road.

“The recent abduction of 21 passengers along the Imphal-Ukhrul stretch of NH-202, reportedly carried out in the presence of Central Security Forces, has severely shaken public confidence and created a serious mistrust among the people towards the security forces responsible for maintaining law and order. The failure to ensure the safety of innocent civilians on such a crucial route has caused deep concern and anger among the public.

“The NH-202 Imphal-Ukhrul Road remains the only lifeline for the Tangkhul community and other inhabitants of the region, serving a population of over two lakhs. The disruption of free movement on this road has gravely affected the daily lives of students, patients, traders, government employees, and ordinary travelers who rely on this route for education, medical treatment, livelihood, and essential supplies.”

TKS further questions how an entire community can be made to suffer from the aggression of immigrants who were allowed to stay among us on humanitarian grounds. The people of the region have always upheld humanitarian values and extended compassion in difficult times. However, our humanity cannot allow us to continue suffering under such circumstances. The goodwill extended on humanitarian grounds must never be turned into a threat against the very community that offered it.

In light of the above, TKS hereby serves an ultimatum of 24 hours to the State Government to immediately provide a clear, credible, and unequivocal assurance of public safety for all travelers along the NH-202 Imphal-Ukhrul Road. The government must take concrete and visible steps to guarantee safe and unhindered passage for civilians. The State Government must not remain silent while the lives and security of its citizens are at stake.

“Should the government fail to provide a firm and dependable assurance, the people will be compelled to take their own course of democratic actions to safeguard their lives and rights. Any untoward incidents that may arise thereafter shall be the sole responsibility of the State Government for failing to ensure the safety of its citizens” added the press release of TKS.

“TKS would also like to remind our three elected representatives to make their stand clear and take immediate steps in safeguarding the lives and security of our people. Silence or inaction at this critical juncture will not be accepted by the public.

“Further, TKS calls upon the general public to remain vigilant and be prepared for a democratic procession to collectively fight for our security, justice, and the restoration of safe and uninterrupted passage along NH-202.

“The safety, dignity, and rights of our people cannot and will not be compromised” stated the press release.
